Why Sell on OtterList

A marketplace designed around better brands.

OtterList exists to make it easier for shoppers to discover independent businesses creating thoughtful products — and to give those businesses another place to grow.

$0

No Pay-to-Play

There are no monthly marketplace fees or listing fees just to have your approved products available on OtterList.

Reach Intentional Shoppers

Get discovered by shoppers actively looking for smaller, more transparent, ethical, and sustainable alternatives.

Show What You Do Well

Eligible standards, materials, sourcing practices, certifications, and other meaningful attributes can be highlighted on your products.

Built for Independent Brands

OtterList is designed to support independent businesses rather than compete against the brands selling on the marketplace.

Transparency Matters

We give shoppers more information about ingredients, materials, sourcing, certifications, and the standards a product meets.

You Stay in Control

You continue managing your products, inventory, fulfillment, and customer experience while OtterList helps shoppers discover you.

How It Works

From application to marketplace.

Every seller is reviewed before being invited to add products.

1

Apply

Tell us about your business, products, materials or ingredients, manufacturing, sourcing, and sustainability or ethical practices.

2

We Review

We review your business against our marketplace standards and may ask for additional information when something needs clarification.

3

Add Eligible Products

Once approved, you'll receive access to submit eligible products along with the information shoppers need to evaluate them.

4

Sell & Fulfill

Customers can purchase approved products through OtterList while your business handles inventory, packing, shipping, and fulfillment.

Our Non-Negotiables

Who we're looking for.

We don't expect perfection. We do expect transparency, genuine effort, and alignment with the principles OtterList is being built around.

✓ Independently Owned

We prioritize independent businesses rather than major corporations or conglomerates.

☰ Transparency

Complete ingredient or material information must be available for products listed on OtterList.

♧ Ethical Practices

We look for responsible business practices and honest claims relating to people, animals, sourcing, and production.

♻ Sustainability

We look for meaningful efforts toward more responsible materials, ingredients, manufacturing, sourcing, packaging, or waste reduction.

⚗ Clean Ingredients & Materials

Products should use thoughtfully selected and clearly disclosed ingredients and materials appropriate to their category.

▣ Quality & Longevity

Products should be thoughtfully made and provide real value rather than contribute unnecessarily to disposable consumption.

♡ Cruelty-Free

Animal testing is not accepted, and animal-derived ingredients or materials may be subject to additional review.

✎ Human-Created

Original creative work should come from real artists, makers, and authors rather than primarily AI-generated work.

Show shoppers what makes your products different.

Meeting OtterList's baseline marketplace requirements is just the starting point. Individual products may also qualify for additional standards, attributes, and certifications when those claims can be supported.

Transparency matters. We may request ingredient lists, material composition, sourcing information, manufacturing details, certifications, or other documentation before approving certain claims or product standards.
Simple, Transparent Pricing

We only earn a marketplace fee when you make a sale.

There's no charge to apply, no monthly marketplace subscription, and no fee to list approved products. Here's exactly how our transaction pricing works.

$0

Monthly Fees

No recurring marketplace fee to keep your seller account active.

$0

Listing Fees

No per-product fee just to add or maintain an approved listing.

3%

Card Processing

Standard credit-card processing is handled through OtterList and deducted from the marketplace transaction.

You only pay these fees when a sale happens. For purchases completed directly through OtterList, an 8% OtterList transaction fee and the standard 3% card-processing fee are deducted from the order. You won't also pay a separate card-processing fee through your own processor for that OtterList transaction.

Questions

Seller FAQ

How much does it cost to sell on OtterList?

There are no monthly fees and no listing fees. For sales completed directly through OtterList, an 8% OtterList transaction fee plus the standard 3% credit-card processing fee is deducted from the order.

Do I pay anything before I make a sale?

No. There is no charge to apply, no monthly marketplace subscription, and no per-product listing fee. OtterList earns its transaction fee when you make a sale.

What is the 3% card-processing fee?

Credit-card transactions have a processing cost. For purchases completed through OtterList, that processing is handled on our side and the standard 3% fee is deducted from the order. You won't also pay a separate processing fee through your own payment processor for that transaction.

Does every product I sell have to be approved?

Approval of your brand doesn't necessarily mean every product will be eligible. We may approve some products while restricting others based on their ingredients, materials, sourcing, category, or other relevant standards.

What if only some of my products meet OtterList's standards?

That's okay. In many cases, we can approve the eligible portion of your catalog without requiring every product your business sells to be listed on OtterList.

Do I need certifications?

Not necessarily. Certifications can help substantiate certain claims, but depending on the standard, we may also accept clear ingredient, material, sourcing, manufacturing, or other supporting documentation.

Who ships the order?

You do. Products are fulfilled by the brands selling them. Your business remains responsible for packing, shipping, returns, and customer service.

What happens after I apply?

We'll review your application and research your business. If we need additional information about ingredients, materials, sourcing, manufacturing, certifications, or other claims, we'll contact you before making a final decision.
